To the Editor:

I applaud the Women’s Center’s “Take Back the Night” initiative. 30 years ago, the women of Cambridge and Boston sponsored “Take Back the Night” initiatives with the same message: stop violent assault against women. However, there are three significant differences between 1977 and 2007.

Letter to the Editor: The elephant on campus

April 12, 2007 Op-Ed

Two years ago, President Joe Morone left Bentley as an institution “poised to become the leading business school of the United States.” Two years ago, as our key visionary departed, so too did our strategic vision and our ability to focus our efforts on achieving Bentley’s potential.

Letter to the Editor: Ridiculous replies

April 12, 2007 Op-Ed

To The Editor,

Allow me to preface this letter by stating that GB101 is not a difficult class. It’s a cookie cutter course that really does not require that much mental wherewithal to attain a passing grade. So why are students taking it so seriously? I mean really, who puts a list together one student at a time to send out spam? There are MUCH more effective ways to compile information.

Democrats and Republicans respond to Vanguard editorial

April 5, 2007 Op-Ed

The Bentley Democrats and Republicans would like to publicly express our disappointment with last week’s Vanguard editorial titled Will the Donkeys and Elephants Please Stand Up? Coming from a publication that has typically demonstrated honest and well-reasoned journalism, we are surprised that this editorial was published without the necessary due diligence and research.

March 29, 2007 Op-Ed

In regards to last week’s article about improving the equipment in the Bowles/video preview room in the library, please note that we will be upgrading the DVD/VCRs, and new Sony headphones are on order. Letter to the Editor

March 1, 2007 Op-Ed

There is little doubt that we, as students, are a privileged bunch. While less than five percent of the world’s population will earn a college degree, we find ourselves at a top institute where we (or more likely our parents) pay vast sums of money so that we can enjoy a quality education.

Growing up in New England I am accustomed to the idea of a snow day. Last week’s snowstorm was more then just a day off from classes. It was a huge mess for facility management workers. The storm left the campus shutdown and covered in ice. Trekking to class all week was a chore with the conditions more than hazardous.

Instant messaging is a tool that my generation has grown up with. I can remember when I first created a screen name for AIM, the popular instant messaging software. I thought it was fun to talk to my friends online. Through middle school and high school, its popularity exploded.

Among the many organizations where Bentley students can perform service learning is one called 2+2=5. This slightly faulty math adds up to something more important – teamwork. Started in 2003 by Scott Morency, 2+2=5 is a program that involves Bentley College and fourth and fifth grade students from local Waltham elementary schools.

December 14, 2006 Op-Ed

There are times in college when I become extremely stressed out by the overwhelming school work I have. My teachers always seem to schedule exams at the same time, my job has become a hassle, and I try to balance some sort of social life on top of everything.
