Frosting is to cake, as jewelry is to your outfit. Accessories add a special touch to your outfit to complete a look, or differentiate you from others sporting similar trends as you are. Jewelry has the ability to glamorize or tarnish your outfit. Ever loved someone’s outfit, but was repulsed by their hideous earrings? Ouch, well here are the dos and don’ts of the jewelry world. The simplest rule to jewelry , is don’t overdue it. Yes, your mother’s real pearls are lovely with a button up, Ralph Lauren polo; but try to shy away from adding dangly chandelier earrings or turquoise stone rings to your outfit as well. Jewelry is supposed to compliment your outfit, rather than dominate your outfit.
How about the age old question, is jewelry suppose to match your top?
Short answer, yes. Of course if you’re wearing neutral colors black, white, brown, gray or white; you can go bold with your jewelry. You can factor in exotic, eye catching jewelry to plain outfits. If you’re wearing a fancy top, with extremely intricate designs, you don’t want to draw attention away from your outfit. Try to settle for simple jewelry, for example: a simple charm necklace, small hoop earrings, or pearl studs.
Is gold or silver for me? And can I wear them together?
Gold jewelry looks best on people with warm skin tones and hair colors. If you have golden, olive or dark skin you could be considered of warm skin color. If you have black hair, or hair with shades of red, gold or bronze, this would categorize you as dark as well. Usually people with brown eyes who tan easily will fall under the warm category. (Most Asians, Latinos, and African-Americans fall into this category.)
Silver jewelry looks best on people with cool skin tones and hair colors. You are considered of cool color if you have a pale or rosy complexion, and burn easily. Your eye color is blue, green or hazel. Also if your hair color is ashy, you fall into the cool category.
Mixing silver and gold jewelry, is like wearing the colors brown and black together. Some people think the two are compatible, others say it’s a no-no. It’s really based on preference. Personally I think that gold and silver belong to two different color families, and shouldn’t be combined. I could also make an argument for the other side saying gold and silver match.. If it’s white gold and silver. Then again, there are some pieces of jewelry that contain gold and silver. Diamonds or pearls go well with both silver and gold jewelry though.
Ladies -
If you’re looking for jewelry that won’t empty your wallet, I suggest looking at stores like Wet Seal, Forever 21, and H&M. Long, multi-chain, necklaces adorn simple sweaters or cowl-necks nicely. I suggest the Multi Row Bead Chain necklace by Wet Seal for only $8.00. Charm bracelets are negligible, and easy to misplace. The popular trend now is to wear bold cuff bracelets; try Rhinestone Stud Filigree Cuff for $4.80, by Forever 21. Also for beautifully crafted jewelry at a higher quality, check out Lia Sophia Jewelry. They have a variety of designs and unique pieces to match anybody’s style.
Men-
Jewelry is always fun if you want to spice up your look. Only a minority of guys wear jewelry, so wearing jewelry will help you stand out in a crowd. Whether it is a personalized dog tag, or titanium bracelet, it is bound to draw attention. You can find affordable personalized jewelry at JC Penny’s website. If bling isn’t’ your thing, remember jewelry isn’t just a fashion statement; for instance watches are of great convenience too aside from just looking good. If you’re looking for a watch that has multiple functions, check out Fossil’s Multifunction Champagne Dial Watch. If you want a classier watch, for special occasions such as interviews, check out Pulsar Titanium Nitride Finish. It has a sleek black finish with gold accents.
Jewelry never goes out of style. It will always be the ultimate accessory to any outfit. Unlike clothes, you can wear the same jewelry every day and get away with it. Also you can wear the same jewelry you wore in high school, and no one would know. Best thing about jewelry? It can work for anyone.
