Decorating the dorm for dummies: staying cheap

September 25, 2008 Features

Stepping into the Bentley dorms on move-in day can be slightly drab and depressing. The cold, concrete walls stare at you blankly and the grayed carpets are nowhere near attractive. The curtains on the windows are bland and the beds are simple. There seems to be no hope in the future of your room by the mere looks of the skeleton.

Bentley women ruggers destroy St. Mike’s 44-10

The Bentley Women’s Rugby team is more determined than ever to win it all this season. The team is coming off two very successful seasons in a row in which last year they went 14-5 but lost in the final minutes of the semifinals to despised rival Bryant, 12-7.

Editorial

September 18, 2008 Op-Ed

Read this: It’s Mandatory
Perhaps prior to your college career you may have seldom seen the word mandatory. But here at Bentley it seems that everything is MANDATORY. Meaning that you are required to attend or do something, usually in capital, triple underlined, bolded text.

EQUIS accreditation and what it means for students

September 18, 2008 News

In the Rauch Administration building photographs depict students holding up signs with attributes representative of Bentley. Most noticeable is the sign bearing “Reputation”. In fact, reputation has become a significant motif at Bentley over the summer, as it became one of two universities in the United States to be honored with the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) accreditation.

The Food Dude

September 18, 2008 Columns

I’ve been told that this isn’t a good idea. That students aren’t “ready” for frying in their dorm room. I disagree. I really don’t see any reason why something that can be done in any other kitchen in the world is not impossible in the kitchen of a college student.

New library printing limit looks to end student abuses of school resources

September 18, 2008 Campus Life

The start of a new semester always brings with it new challenges. Figuring out new classes, how to navigate a now tray-less cafeteria, and even getting used to a new dorm room can seem daunting. Now added to the list, is figuring out how one is supposed to only print 800 sheets of paper a year.

Bank of America Corp. acquires Merrill Lynch for $29 a share

September 18, 2008 Marketplace

44 billion US Dollars later and Bank of America has a new addition to their corporation. This deal appears to have a large positive side down the road, but does not come risk-free in the short-term. The combination of uncertainty over Merrill’s assets, a shaky economy, Bank of America’s already full plate (most notably Countrywide), and most obviously whether Bank of America has/will have enough capital to sustain both itself and Merrill (Merrill will need more capital support than the relatively stable Bank of America), still creates a feeling of uneasiness for some.

Women’s soccer hangs on for the tie; no Boyd in second half

September 18, 2008 Sports

The Falcons 2-2 tie with Le Moyne on Saturday may not have determined who was the better team, but it certainly showed who plays with more heart and passion. The real story of the game took place in over time, where no goals were scored. The Le Moyne Dolphins were sitting on the bench, quietly watching the action, while the Bentley bench was on their feet, cheering on their team, with the injured and barefooted, 5-foot-3 Cheryl Boyd pacing atop the empty bench as the team fought to grind out a goal that never came.

The Falcons are sure happy to have their out of conference schedule out of the way. After winning their first game of the season against Millersville, the Falcons have lost their last two games including last week’s 59-18 loss at the hands of the Carson Newman Eagles.

Letter to the Editor

September 18, 2008 Op-Ed

Before I begin, this piece was not written on behalf on any group, organization, or the College itself. This is of personal opinion only.
Waste: a simple five letter word that symbolizes much more than some seem to think. Recently a fellow student wrote an Op-Ed that seemingly excused Bentley College of “nickel and diming” its students by removing the trays from Seasons Dining Hall, reducing napkin use, placing a page limit on printing in our library, and on and on the list seems to go.
