Homecoming Celebrates Super 70s in Groovy Style

This weekend Bentley kicks off Homecoming events in preparation for the big football game against Pace University on Saturday, October 19. The Campus Activities Board (CAB) came up with the idea of grooving to the past, while attending their fall retreat.

CAB’s Special Events Chair, Jason Kohari, felt that everyone could relate to the seventies. “It is a big theme, and just like Mardi Gras from last year, it’s easy to plan for.”

Kohari hoped to have up to 200 students attend the Homecoming Kick-Off on Wednesday, October 16. The events included a dance and costume contest, with free snacks, soda, full bar with proper ID, and prizes. On Thursday night, CAB will team up with the KPA Fraternity to create its’ own version of Oktoberfest. The event is $5 for students, $7 for guests, and includes live music. The event will take place in the Lower Caf‚ from 9:30 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.

CAB hopes that the celebrations of this weekend will raise school spirit among the classes, especially with the Bentley Falcon missing from campus. “It is a huge weekend, with alumni, students, and a variety of different events. We hope that the dances, free food, and parades will appeal to everyone, and that students will hopefully attend contests and socials before and after the football game, and continue with the whole schedule,” said Kohari.

CAB is offering a chocolate dessert extravaganza on the Greenspace Friday evening from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. while the Homecoming Parade float decorations occur. The decorating will include a live DJ, and free giveaways as well. The parade floats will be displayed on Saturday at noon, during the annual Homecoming Parade. Many clubs and organizations will have their floats represented in the parade, including the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, the Student Government Association, the Pan Halenic Association, the senior class, and the general class cabinet. After the parade, CAB is offering a multitude of prizes in the Quarterback Challenge, which takes place on the Copley Green before the big game. Bentley will battle Pace University at 2 p.m., with students and alumni cheering for a great victory.

Students will be able to party with friends on the Greenspace Saturday afternoon with a performance from the popular band Brick Park, with complementary hot chocolate and apple cider. Brick Park is familiar with the Bentley Campus, and played as a cover band during Spring Day, last May. Kohari explained the reasons behind booking Brick Park. “This is the first time we have booked a band of a generally large venue. We hope that more students will come out to enjoy the music.”

For those who feel Homecoming is a dreary and unexciting event at Bentley, Kohari disagrees. “The variety and quality of programs offered this year is excellent. For someone to say Homecoming is boring is missing out on great college experiences.”
