The weather is improving, shorts and sandals are coming out and, as such, Spring Day is nearly upon us. For those freshmen who have yet to be told about it, Spring Day is a daylong campus event including entertainment, barbecues, and the occasional drink.
Last year’s event was a success due to the lengths the administration went to incorporate the desires of the student body and the respect the student body subsequently showed for school policies. These policies were made available to all students by e-mail, but are printed here again for any clarification that may be needed.
All students and guests must have a Spring Day wristband if they plan to be in any public residential areas of the campus, effective 9 a.m. Saturday until 9 a.m. Sunday. Four wristband types will be available, including ones for a Bentley student over 21, Bentley student under 21, guest over 21, guest under 21. Bentley students are limited to one guest each and must be present with him or her at the wristband table in order for the guest to receive a wristband.
Keep in mind, when you bring a guest to Spring Day you and he or she will sign a contract agreeing to abide by college rules, you must spend the day with your guest (together at all times), and that you are responsible for the actions of your guest. Any guests who violate this policy are subject to immediate removal from campus and/or arrest. Student violators will face the judicial system with penalties including fines, probation, and work sanctions.
Wristbands will be available Friday, April 26, outside the Seasons Cafeteria from 12:00 p.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. They will also be available on Saturday, April 27 on College Drive from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and then at the Office of Residence Life from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. There is a $50 fee for “lost” wristbands.
With the appropriate wristbands, Bentley students and guests over 21 years of age can consume alcohol in the designated outside areas from noon to 6 p.m. Inside the designated drinking areas, students of age can bring a 24 ounce container (not glass or cans), with an alcohol equivalent of two beers, and it must be in a covered container. Drinking “en-route” to the designated areas is prohibited. Consumption of alcohol on any other part of campus during the day is prohibited and will be confiscated regardless of age.
Bentley students under 21 and caught drinking will have their alcohol confiscated and face disciplinary action. No backpacks or other bags will be allowed and are subject to search and/or confiscation by college officials. Public intoxication and the use of any controlled substances will not be tolerated.
The college needs to do its part to protect itself in any legal situation that might arise from such an event, and these rules are a result. Abide by them, and everyone will enjoy the day.
