The Charles A. Dana Athletic Center is located on the Lower Campus. It is open to all students, faculty, and staff. The Dana Center is fully equipped with everything you need. There is a fitness center (nautilus equipment, free weights, cardio machines), racquetball courts, basketball courts, dance studio, golf cages, volleyball courts, a swimming pool and a dive tank. The facilities are open daily for general use, unless there is a special activity scheduled. You will need your Bentley ID to get in. Also, look for the brand-new fields for baseball and soccer, track and tennis courts, which are currently under construction, and will open in the Fall.

Intramurals

A little friendly competition never hurt anyone. More than 1,300 students participate in the college’s intramural program. Throughout the academic year, the Athletic Department offers a wide range of recreational activities to emphasize health, fitness and fun.

Intramurals are run by students and meet the needs for both male and female students, regardless of athletic ability. You are able to select from a variety of sports; floor hockey, basketball, softball, and flag football are the more popular sports. Participation in intramurals is completely voluntary.

Physical Education

I have to take gym in college!? The answer to that is yes, unless you play a varsity sport. Intramurals are NOT considered varsity sports, therefore those cannot be used to fulfill the physical education requirement. The Phys. Ed. course is a one semester, non-credit class, which is supervised.

Students are offered a wide variety of options that provide some fun, camaraderie, and education of the activities. Bentley’s Phys. Ed. program offers such activities as swimming, golf, aerobics, volleyball, racquet sports, weight training, Latin dance, and for the women, Rape Aggression Defense (RAD). Some of the courses are geared for beginners and are more instructional.
